Strengthening families in Africa
A strong family is the most important foundation for a child’s healthy development. The SOS Family Strengthening Programme aims to prevent families in deprived areas from breaking down due to poverty. The aim of SOS Family Strengthening is to enable parents and single parents to become self-reliant and care for their children independently.
Many families in Africa face major challenges. Numerous countries continue to be plagued by war, disease and famine. One in fourteen children in sub-Saharan Africa does not even reach the age of five, and many children grow up without parents.
The SOS Family Strengthening Programme provides targeted support to particularly vulnerable families and their children living in the vicinity of an SOS Children’s Village. Our staff assist them with material needs, provide access to medical care and help with educational matters.
